Braintree is PayPal's card processing and gateway service, now sold as PayPal Braintree; braintreepayments.com redirects to PayPal's site. Larger online merchants and apps use it to take cards, PayPal and Venmo through one integration.

US standard rate for cards and third-party digital wallets. Venmo is 3.49% + 49¢. PayPal transactions are billed under your PayPal account terms. ACH Direct Debit is 0.75% capped at $5. Custom flat rates, interchange plus pricing and discounts are available for established businesses.
Braintree's Acceptable Use Policy (last updated November 8, 2017) prohibits negative response marketing, pseudo pharmaceuticals, sharing cardholder data with another merchant for up-sell or cross-sell offers, rebate incentives after purchase, telemarketing, membership subscriptions over one year without approval, and activity that creates a significant risk of chargebacks. It does not mention dropshipping.
Most US merchants can use Braintree's aggregated Amex account, which also funds within 2-5 business days of settlement.
Shopify lists Braintree among providers that do not support Shopify post-purchase offers because they require CVV retention. WooCommerce sells an official PayPal Braintree extension built by Woo that supports WooCommerce Subscriptions and Apple Pay.
